Our Chiropractic Technician is an important part of your spinal curve success! Our clinic utilizes a Chiropractic Technician to work as a team-player in helping our patients reach their correction goals.

Our CT, Karen, has a B.Sc. in Kinesiology from Brock University and has a background in personal training.  She assists in the examination of our new patients, taking Dr. Ferguson’s dictated notes and performing computerized gait and postural analyses.

Karen actively engages our patients in a specific spinal correction plan before and after your adjustment. We have found that working with the soft tissues of the neck before and after an adjustment significantly improves your spinal alignment.

Before the adjustment with Dr. Ferguson:

Cervical Traction PicturePettibon Cervical Traction is performed before the adjustment.

Our patients are guided to loosen up their spinal joints and discs to receive the maximum benefit from their adjustment utilizing Pettibon decompression cervical traction pictured above and Pettibon Wobble-chair procedures pictured below.  These not only lubricate the spine and increase disc hydration, but increase the information from joint mechanoreceptors to the brain to enhance the control of the surrounding muscles from the brain.  Many patients buy items such as these to perform the exercises at home as well.

Further, under the direction of Dr. Ferguson, Karen may use blocking techniques to challenge pelvic ligaments and may mechanically ‘tenderize’ tight muscles which might be an impediment to spinal correction using either an ERCHONIA percussor or Pettibon PTLMS machine.  These procedures are the favourite procedures of many patients.

Karen may also be directed to manually perform a procedure to enhance breathing and rib cage function before Dr. Ferguson’s adjustment.

After the Adjustment with Dr. Ferguson:

Working from the postural distortions noted on the examination and X-Ray findings,  Dr. Ferguson prepares a sequential exercise regimen for patients, which Karen instructs and directs our patients to perform.  Some are done right after the adjustment in the clinic while others are done at home.  Often, Karen is directed to strategically place weights on patients while they do some exercises in the clinic to engage the righting reflexes of the body in creating structural change.

It’s our feeling that the Chiropractic Technician position is valuable for patients wanting to get the fastest results possible in terms of symptom relief and improved spinal integrity.  For some patients, the procedures are contraindicated and we simply adjust them. For others, they simply want symptom relief and don’t care much about their alignment or mechanical spinal cord tension.  No problem.  There is no extra charge for the use of the Chiropractic Technician program.  For those rare individuals who opt not to utilize the program, it’s chiefly one of time.  Our visits are longer than in most offices because the procedures take time.  My staff does an incredible job of managing logistics so that we are efficient in our care delivery, but our care takes longer per adjustment than most clinics.

New Wobble Chair PictureThe results are worth it. The Pettibon rehabilitation techniques are proven procedures.  Our patients get a comparative digitized posture analysis done every 12-15 office visits, and the improvements in posture are usually apparent without the computerized lines.

Our Chiropractic Technician is dedicated to your clinical success and enjoyment of your clinic visit experience.

Pictured to the right is a patient performing the Pettibon Wobble Chair exercise to limber up her low back discs and joints before her adjustment with Dr. Ferguson.  We feel this inhibition of fluid to the disc and increased feedback of joint receptors to the brain enhance the effectiveness of our adjustive procedures immensely!

Scoliosis Care:

Our approach to Scoliosis care is very unique.  Besides the Pro-Adjuster, which has the capability of imparting proprioceptive information to the spine and nervous system at up to 90 impacts per second, and the specific home exercise program our Chiropractic Technician instructs our scoliosis patients, our use of Vibration combined with lateral traction and Pettibon weighting is a novel approach to the sideways curves of scoliosis.
